Ethiopia, Somalia Agree To Strengthen Cooperation To Combat Terrorism & Information exchange

Ethiopia and Somalia have agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation to combat terrorism and exchange information the National Intelligence and Security Service ( NISS ) disclosed.

 

President of Somalia Federal Government, Hassen Shiek Mohamud ‘’ Ethiopia and Somalia is working to enhance their cooperation in combating terrorism and exchange information” speaking at his visit to the National Intelligence and Security Service to day. 

 

According to President Hassen Shiek Mohamud, Ethiopia is playing key role to fight against terrorism in East Africa region, both countries will strengthen the bilateral relations and partnership to maintain peace and stability of   the region.

 

Ethiopia ‘s peace and stability is significant for Somalia and also the peaceful and stable situation in Somalia is also vital for the security interests of Ethiopia, President Hassen Shiek Mohamud said.  Ethiopia and Somalia will continue their exchange of informations to fight against terrorism, cross border crimes, illegal weapon movements and illegal money transfer, President Hassen Shiek Mohamud stated.

 

President Hassen Shiek Mohamud appreciated the astounding organizational reform outcomes and experiences registered in NISS in areas of human resource capacity building, technology, modernization of systems, partnership and cooperation. Somalia will cooperate with National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS) in capacity building and other fields, President Hassen Shiek added.

       

Deputy Director General of NISS, Sisay Tola on his part said that Ethiopia and Somalia governments have strong diplomatic relations, people ‘s of the two countries share common culture, language, religion and prolonged people ties.  

 

According to Sisay Tola, Ethiopia sent peacekeeping troops to Somalia is symbolic   for Ethiopia’s commitment to combat terrorism in Somalia and horn of Africa.  The government of Ethiopia   has a firm stand to deepen cooperations of the two countries in military and security sectors targeted to maintain peace and stability in the horn Africa region, Sisay underlined. 

 

He added that the cooperation between the National Intelligence and Security Service and Somalian counter part will be strengthening in the fields of capacity building and information exchange. The cooperation between the intelligence and security organizations of two countries will help to jointly fight against terrorism, cross border crimes, illegal weapon movements, illegal human trafficking and illegal money transfer in the horn of Africa.         

 

Ethiopia resists the recent internal conflicts and the challenges of external influences, because of the successful security sector reform implemented by NISS, under the direction of the national political reform made in 2018 GC.

 

The reform activities of NISS helped to register results on strengthening professional competency, creating efficient manpower, development and utilization of modern technologies to protect national security threats, enhancement of partnership and cooperations with stakholders and defending the influence of psychological operations on Ethiopia.
