Ethiopia, Sudan agree to boost regional security Cooperation

The National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS) of Ethiopia and the Sudan’s General Intelligence Service (GIS) counter part have agreed to strengthen cooperation to maintain peace and security in east Africa region.         

 

Sudanese delegation led by the Director General of Sudanese General Intelligence Service, Lieutenant General Ahmed Ibrahim Mufadel, paid visit to NISS head quarters in Addis Ababa. Head of intelligence services of the two countires have discussed the security situation of the two countries, horn africa at large and resolving mechanisms were setted.   

 

According to Director General of NISS, Temsegen Tiruneh, intelligence services of the two countries have agreed to collaborate in information exchange, capacity buildings and to reduce effects of cross border crimes, illegal trafficking's of money, human and weapons.

 

The Director General underlines that the cooperation of the two services also focuses on exchange of information and joint operations to combat against the threat of terrorism in east Africa region.  

 

The Ethiopian Government firmly believes that Ethiopia will continue to be an integral strategic partner of Sudan, Temesgen stated. The cooperation and partnerships between two services enables the two countries to defend the common security threats and maintain peace and security in the region. 

 

The Director General of Sudanese General Intelligence Service (GIS) Lieutenant General Ahmed Ibrahim Mufadel on his part said that Ethiopia and Sudan have common issues and their intelligence services have agreed to jointly protect security threats in east Africa region. Particularly, partnership of the two services focuses on joint missions to combat against internalional and regional terrorisms, he underlines.    

 

Since, ethiopia and sudan shared long borderlines has exposed both countries to illegal weapon movements, illegal activities and boarder crimes, Lieutenant General Ahmed stated.  The consultation helps to protect illegal movements, boarder crimes, ensuring peace and security of people and enhance economic benefits and relations of the two peoples at border areas.  

 

Finally, NISS and GIS have agreed to setting up permanent consultation to move forward cooperation and partnership between the two services.
